CDI Begins Construction at Historical Salem Harbor
Commonwealth has begun construction on the new reinforced Concrete Chimney at Salem Harbor Energy Center in Salem, Massachusetts. This project is owned by Footprint Power and is part of a large-scale redevelopment of this historical 65-acre site. CDI was awarded an engineering and construction contract by Iberdrola to build a 230' concrete chimney with three steel liners for the new quick-start combined-cycle gas turbine.
CDI is pleased to work with Iberdrola and Footprint Power on this exciting and highly-anticipated project. For more information on this project, please visit www.footprintsalemharbor.com. Visit us on Facebook or our website for updates on this important project.
Guacolda Power Project, Chile S.A.
CDI Reaches Final Milestone
Congratulations to our Commonwealth team in Huasco, Chile for final completion of the new concrete chimney at Guacolda Power Station. CDI designed and constructed this 80m reinforced concrete chimney with Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) Liner for Empressa Electrica Guacolda's plant on the coast of Chile. This was the fourth chimney installed on site and the first to utilize an FRP internal flue. During the course of construction, the chimney experienced a massive (8+ magnitude) earthquake event and responded flawlessly without any kind of damage.

Rutenberg Power Plant Ashkelon, Israel
Commonwealth is extremely pleased to announce our construction team has reached its first major milestone for a large power plant chimney in Israel. Our team made the final concrete pour and officially "topped out" the chimney at a height at 203 meters (667ft) tall. Our crew overcame increasingly difficult working conditions over the last several weeks, however they continued to work safely and without incident to reach this important milestone on schedule. Congratulations to the entire Commonwealth Team!
Welsh Power Plant Pittsburg, Texas
Commonwealth has been contracted by American Electric Power to design and construct one (1) 531' tall by 63' OD reinforced concrete chimney with two (2) insulated steel liners at Welsh Power Plant in Pittsburg, Texas. Our team has set up the forming system and begun pouring the concrete for this project scheduled for completion in October 2015. This specialty structure is part of AEP's commitment to comply with environmental regulations for cleaner, more efficient energy.
CDI Breaks Ground on Second Chimney in Israel
Commonwealth has broken ground at Rutenberg Power Station in Ashkelon, Israel. CDI will commence construction of the 656 foot tall reinforced concrete chimney and reach completion in April 2016. Rutenberg is the second chimney for CDI to build for Israel Electric Company. Orot Rabin Power Station is located 66 miles north in Hadera, Israel and is the site of CDI's 821 foot tall reinforced concrete chimney that is scheduled for completion in November 2014. The photograph below (left) shows our Israel Operations Team setting the formwork for Rutenberg. Orot Rabin Power Station is pictured to the right.
Guacolda Power Project, Chile S.A.
Commonwealth has been contracted by Mitsubishi Heavy Systems to design and build one (1) 80m tall reinforced concrete chimney for Empresa Electrica Guacolda, S.A. at their plant in Guacolda, Chile. The photograph below shows the chimney shell "top out", where the chimney shell reached its full height in late February 2014. The next step is to remove the slipform equipment shown at the top of the shell, and to begin installation of the fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) liner.
Congratulations to our South American Operations Team!

1200MW Coal Fired Power Project, State of Chhattisgarh, India
CDI assisted in the development of a concrete mix design based on locally available materials using an on-site batch plant to meet the design requirements. During the execution phase of the work CDI supplied Slipform Technicians, Slipform Supervisors and Safety Advisors. This work was performed during the monsoon season in India, so for much of the construction the crews had to deal with daily down pours. The chimney reached its final elevation of 275m on November 28, 2013 and is the tallest chimney CDI has built to date. Despite extreme weather conditions and other challenges of working in a remote location, the work was performed to a very high quality standard and without any safety incidents.
