Chalk Point Station  |  Aquasco, Maryland - USA
Partial Demolition & Rebuild of 400ft Cooling Tower

The scope of this project included demolition of the top 104ft of a 400ft high x 186ft top OD cooling tower plus a rebuild in-kind. Lower portions of the shell that were to remain received sounding of all interior and exterior surfaces with spalled and weak surfaces, repaired per ACI 506.2.

Three 300 ton Manitowoc 2250 crawler cranes were brought in for use during demolition and new shell construction. Each crane was configured with a 200ft main boom, a 200ft luffing jib and a justify; All thirty two (32) 60ft-5in high x-column support legs were fully inspected and repaired. All x-column supports and the entire shell (new and existing), received a cathodic protection system.
